Taking a break from hours +++ of reading for midterms, I engaged in some good old music hunting for DJ set creation's / inspiration / and enjoyment. Via a number of channels, when an artist did not have a free download link, I almost always ended up on Soundcloud.com to see if they there had it for free. Most all the songs granted are remixes or electronic music originals, 9 times out of 10 I was able to download the full song, excellent quality for FREE! On a few occasions there was the option to Beatport.com download or free download, sometimes only a purchase option. I do every few weeks hit up Beatport and grab a handful of tracks that are purchase only, but the gist of my music is gotten para free.
Where I am going as far as the idea or what have you is this:
I myself make music, though still a Jedi Padwan as far as producing goes. [I would say a Jedi Knight maybe as far as DJing goes?Maaaaybe..] But if I ever do advance a level of experience and skill in making my own song creations, I would rather have notoriety over online purchase royalties. That is not to say I would not try my hand at making albums with maybe bonus material or this or that, but I think the thing is that PLAYing the music for a live audience is what I'd think deserves some monetary compensation.
